The Steering Committee is a group of 12 members, chosen in their individual capacities as being front runners in the field of sexuality and HIV/AIDS.  They are charged with the responsibility of supporting the overall planning of the Conference by providing technical direction and guidance to IPPF as host of the Conference, support advocacy initiatives for the Conference and in mobilizing resources for a successful hosting of the Conference.

Specific Roles

Advocacy

To increase the profile of the Conference internationally and generate interest from individuals, organizations and governments from Africa, and around the world. 

Tasks

• Using all speaking opportunities to discuss the Conference and take questions regarding the Conference.
• Circulating copies of the conference brochure/concept note to all potential stakeholders.
• To organize meetings with critical stakeholders to discuss Conference objectives.
• To periodically represent IPPF as the host of the Conference at critical international meetings on SRHR, Sexuality and HIV/AIDS, and through such meetings, raise the profile of the Conference.  

Fundraising/Scholarship

To support IPPF as the host organization in mobilizing resources for the successful hosting of the Conference.

Tasks  

• In conjunction with IPPF Africa Regional Office, the Steering committee members will propose fundraising strategies to approach both local and international donors. These funds will be used to provide scholarship to a certain number of participants.
• Identify key donors and provide important linkages for mobilizing resources for the Conference. 

Post-Conference meeting

There will be a post-conference meeting to: review outcomes of the 4^th Conference; adopt the conference proceedings and technical report; identify the host of and set up the interim committee for the 5^th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights.  Members of the Steering Committee will be expected to attend.
