Youth Committee

The Youth Committee will be responsible for setting a ‘Youth Agenda’ for the Conference, and ensures that the Conference provides an opportunity to define the key issues for interventions as relevant to young persons, taking account of gender disparities, sexualities, HIV status etc.  The Youth Committee will also be responsible for planning interactive activities to ensure that young people engage at the Conference.     

Specific Tasks

  • Identify key themes and activities, including parallel youth interactive activities to reflect Conference objectives.
  • Organize pre-Conference activities, including skills building sessions for young persons in line with the themes.  Some of the other proposed activities include Youth Advocacy 5km Walk, Cultural show, Youth Village as a space for young persons etc. 
  • Facilitate the integration of key issues emerging from pre-Conference within main Conference.   
  • Identify key youth facilitators, speakers and topics for all Conference sessions. 
  • Identify funding opportunities for young people to participate at the Conference.
  • Review and identify list of young participants to be sponsored at the Conference. 
  • Organize and coordinate entries to the Youth Corner/blog on the website needs to be regularly updated with news affecting Youth and Sexuality especially in Africa.  
  • The Committee members would be expected to keep in touch electronically and one meeting would be planned by IPPF ARO to bring members together. 
  • Youth Committee members are also expected to record issues/events that happen at the conference specifically related to the youth. This will all be summed up at the end of the conference and disseminated in the youth corner. The report should also include comments/recommendations regarding youth participation in future conferences and particular issues that were of particular interest or those that were ignored as concerns youth and sexuality.
