Book Launch: "A Tapestry of Human Sexuality in Africa"

5.30 – 6.30pm
ECA Conference Centre

Delegates are invited to the launch of a new book titled "A Tapestry of Human Sexuality in Africa" published by Jacana Media in association with Action Health Incorporated and Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre.

The book is a collection of papers that intricately examine human sexuality on the continent. The voices are fresh and speak about often understudied aspects of human sexuality. Reflection on such issues as, the coverage of gender-based violence in Kenyan print media, accessibility of shelters for LGBT people in South Africa, and how the Internet can be a valuable tool for communicating sexuality messages to Muslim people, provide lessons that can be translated into positive action in favour of sexuality on the continent at large.

Premiere of Award Winning Film Courage and Hope

7.30 – 8.30pm
Room CR5, ECA Conference Centre

Screening, panel discussion, and drinks reception

Delegates are invited to a special screening and drinks reception for the award winning document Courage & Hope: African teachers living positively with HIV.

Courage and Hope bears witness to the stories of four Kenyan teachers living with HIV, and the stigma and discrimination they faced in their schools, communities and families. It goes on to document how with treatment and support, these teachers have triumphed over their personal circumstances and have become true leaders in the education sector’s fight against the disease. By raising awareness of challenges faced by teachers, the film is a powerful advocacy tool and training resource which aims to reduce HIV stigma, and encourage others to access treatment and continue working in their professions.

We are absolutely thrilled that the stars of the film will be joining Dr Uwemedimo Esiet (Action Health Incorporated) and Ekua Yankah (UNESCO) for what promises to be an extremely interesting panel discussion.

Free drinks and food will be served.

All welcome so we look forward to seeing you there.
