Senator Thandi Shongwe is presently serving as a senator in the parliament of Swaziland. She previously served the Government of Swaziland as the Minister responsible for Tourism, Environment and Communication. Senator Thandi is a midwife and a family nurse practitioner by profession.
Her work over the years has focused on Maternal and Child Health, HIV and AIDS, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Gender Programmes. She has a wealth of experience working with Civil Society and Government Institutions.
She is a member of the High Level Taskforce for Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV/AIDS in Eastern and Southern Africa, a member of the African Parliamentary forum on Population and Development (SADC representative) and also a member of the African Women Leaders Network for Reproductive Health and Family Planning.
