Goal: Supporting emerging sexual health and rights leaders in Africa
Objectives: Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Develop a better understanding of the basic concepts and major challenges to youth sexual health and rights in Africa;
- Build the skills required to engage with stakeholders in advancing the youth agenda; and
- Contribute to mapping the key actions required for improving youth sexual health and rights in Africa

- Defining The Key Terms and Concepts: Sex, Sexuality, Gender, Sexual Health and Rights
- Status of Youth Sexual Health & Rights in Africa- I: What Are The Issues of Concern?
- Status of Youth Sexual Health & Rights in Africa- II: Progress Made and Further Actions Required
- Pleasure and Responsibility: Building Loving and Mutually Rewarding Relationships
- Claiming Our Rights: International & Regional Covenants That Validate Sexual Health and Rights
- Making Advocacy and Partnerships Work for Promoting the Youth Agenda
Faculty and Facilitation Methodology:
Internationally recognized sexual health and rights practitioners and activists will serve as resource persons at the institute. They will employ a participatory workshop approach combining formal PowerPoint presentations with small working groups, case studies and simulation exercises. Presentations and discussions will be in English and certificates will be presented to participants who complete the programme.
Eligibility and Application Process:
All young people aged between 18 – 24 years who have registered to attend the Third Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights are eligible to apply. Although, participation is free of charge, there are limited spaces and interested participants must register by submitting their completed Youth Sexuality Institute Application Form to opportunities@actionhealthinc.org by Sunday, 3 February, 2008, in order to have a space reserved for them at the institute. To afford more Nigerian youth the opportunity to participate at the Third Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights, Action Health Incorporated is offering 10 (ten) youth scholarships.
