Hallo Yvette
My name is Vimbai and I am writing from Zimbabwe. Firstly I would like to commend the great Youth initiatives and go on to say I am willing to be part of whateva initiatives that will drive for the reclaiming of sexual and reproductive health and rights by the youths especially the young women.
I think the youth must be proactive and participate to their best capacity to make an input during the conference. the voice of the youth regarding SRHR issues must be heard and must stand out.
Issues must cover from the participation and involment of the youth.
Intergration of SRH services and HIV and AIDS services
Young women and gender.
The health delivery systems and the youth.
I will continue to make my contributions with time.
Thank you
Vimbai

Hey Vimbai,
Great to hear of your interest in the upcoming conference and thank you for your comments. Kindly send me an email on ykathurima@ippfaro.org with your contact details including email and physical addresses. We are currently in the process of setting up a Youth Committee and we might need additional help from youth volunteers across the region to help publicize the conference among the youth. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Kind regards,
Yvette

Hi Yvette,
I am glad to be sharing on this site. I am keen on seeing the participation of young women who have been discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identities, among other young women including commercial sex workers.
I shall use the blogging space on this site to share experiences of working with a wide spectrum of young women.

Hey Saida,
Thanks for your comments. We are also keen on ensuring that young women have a voice at this Conference. Any chance that you might be able to answer the questions raised above? Please encourage others in your networks to register and contribute.
Kind regards,
Yvette

Yvette,
My take on a few issues. It is crucial that the presence of young people more so young women is felt in the conference, my feedback on some of the issues you have raised above are:
- in order to publicize the event and get more youth registering and submitting abstracts the youth committee should take advantage of the spaces where young people are in, the cyber space is one great opportunity. The use of social networking sites like facebook will be of great help in creating awareness on the conference. The activities that will be highlighted will also motivate youth participation. One of the main hindrances to youth participation is lack of funding hence resources on areas that youth can get funding for the same would be important
-Agenda: Youth should not be segregated to a parallel forum but rather make efforts to ensure that the youth are represented and the issues that affect them more given prominence in the main forums
-Youth reporters – It would be important to have these in all forums so that the youth aspect in issues being discussed is highlighted and this can be further inform any ‘youth forums’ in the conference. At the end of the forum a youth voice in terms of a document / statement can then be developed and the summary of deliberations shared with other youth after the conference
Youth village- seems like a great idea though I would think it will be more effective if this is not done every evening but on particular evenings, may be the first and the last evenings??
My thoughts,
Sophie Ngugi
